Turn a Public Claude Share Link into a PDF

Paste a public Claude link (it starts with claude.ai/share/) into the box below and the conversation becomes a searchable PDF you can keep, even if the link is switched off later.

No public link possible? The extension exports the chat straight from claude.ai — no sharing step at all.

  1. Get a public link. It must look like https://claude.ai/share/…. If the chat is yours, open it in Claude, click Share in the top-right corner and make sure it's shared as a public link that anyone can view, not with specific people by email. Then copy it.
  2. Paste it into the converter at the top of this page (it's the same free converter as on the home page). Tick Export Claude's responses only if you want to drop your prompts.
  3. Click Convert to PDF. A preview appears and your browser's print dialog opens. Pick Save as PDF under Destination, then save.

That's the whole process. The result is a text-based PDF, so you can search it, highlight it and copy passages out of it. Want paper instead? The same dialog can send it to a printer; print settings for a clean Claude printout covers paper size, margins and scale.

Knowing what the converter does makes its limits predictable:

  1. It opens the share page the way a logged-out visitor would, in a browser on our conversion service. That's why only public links work — an invite-only or Team link shows a sign-in page to a stranger, and the converter sees the same thing.
  2. It extracts just the conversation — your prompts and Claude's replies — and discards the interface around it.
  3. It rebuilds that text as a print-ready document with Claude's headings, lists, tables and code blocks, and hands it to your browser.
  4. Your browser makes the PDF from the print dialog. Nothing is uploaded from your computer, and the service keeps no copy of the chat, the link or the file.

The whole round trip usually takes a few seconds for an average chat; very long conversations take longer because the service has to load the full page first. If the dialog shows a blank preview, the page is still rendering — give it a moment before saving.

Claude now offers two kinds of sharing, and the default is the one the converter can't use.

If you invited someone by email and then paste that same link into the converter, it will fail, because the converter isn't signed in as the person you invited. Switch the chat to a public link and try again. Team and Enterprise workspaces don't offer public links at all. Claude's help center explains how public links for shared chats work.

A colleague's share link is borrowed access: they can turn it off or delete the chat whenever they like, and the page stops opening immediately. If the conversation holds something you'll need later (a spec, a code review, research notes), convert it while it still works.

A quick way to check whether a link you received will convert: open it in a private or incognito window. If the chat shows up there without signing in, it's public and the converter can read it. If you're asked to sign in or told you need access, it was shared only with specific people, and you'll need the sender to create a public link or send you a PDF instead.

Three habits help with received links:

  • Check the snapshot date against what you were promised. If the answer the sender mentioned isn't there, the link predates it. Ask them to click Update shared chat; the same link then shows the newer messages.
  • Drop the prompts if you only need the answers. Tick Export Claude's responses only and the PDF reads as Claude's replies in order, without the sender's questions.
  • Ask for a file when a public link isn't possible. Team and Enterprise workspaces can't create public links, so a colleague there has to export the chat from inside claude.ai and send you the PDF or Word file.

What the PDF includes, and what it can't

A share link is a snapshot, so the PDF shows exactly what the link shows:

  • Included: every prompt and reply up to the moment the chat was shared (or last updated), with headings, lists, tables, inline code and code blocks laid out as a document.
  • Not included: messages added after the snapshot, files that were attached to the chat, and raw data from connectors or tools. Claude leaves those out of shared chats by design.
  • Not rendered by the converter: artifacts, charts and other visual elements. They're part of the shared snapshot in Claude, but the converter only lays out the text of the conversation — the extension keeps charts and diagrams as images. Newer Docs, Slides and Design artifacts have Claude's own Export button; for the rest, see saving a Claude artifact as a PDF.

When the converter shows an error

Most failures come from the link itself, not the converter: an address-bar /chat/ URL, an invite-only link, or a chat that was unshared or deleted. Troubleshooting a Claude share link that won't open walks through each cause and its fix.

Some chats shouldn't be public, even briefly. The Claude to PDF extension adds export buttons inside claude.ai, so you can save a private chat, a single response or an artifact as PDF or Word (Google Docs and Markdown can be switched on in its settings) without creating a link. It runs in desktop Chrome, Edge, Brave and Arc. The converter-versus-extension table on the home page compares the two side by side.

If you made a chat public only to convert it, you can switch it back to private once the PDF is saved. Your file keeps working either way.

Frequently asked questions

What does a Claude share link look like?

It starts with https://claude.ai/share/ followed by an ID. The address in your browser bar while you're chatting contains /chat/ instead, and that address is private, so it won't convert.

Will the PDF update if the chat continues after the link was made?

No. A share link is a snapshot of the chat at the moment it was shared, and the PDF captures that snapshot. The owner has to click Update shared chat in Claude before newer messages appear in the link.

Does the converter keep a copy of the link or the chat?

No. It loads the public page, returns a print-ready document to your browser, and stores nothing.

Can I convert a Claude link on my phone?

No. The converter runs in desktop browsers only, and phones aren't supported. Keep the link and convert it on a computer, or ask the sender for the PDF.
